On Thursday June 23rd, I along with a few other dozen up-and-coming photographers will be displaying works spanning from many different genres of photography. For this show I committed myself to sticking with a fully traditional film approach with the photo submitted for the Photo Assistance Show. Later would I find out the difficulties and frustrations of keeping to an all tradition film process in an ever evolving realm where digital technology dominates and film photography struggles to maintain a presence in the consumer market. For this show I will be displaying an 18x20 image from the "Found+Abandon" film series.

SVANH(Portrait)

..."A man on the move"...  I was given an oppurtunity to follow and capture one of L.A's up and coming photographers, Sammy Siharat a.k.a SVANH. Originally from Oklahoma, SVANH has carved out his own path and has brought his unique and artistic style of photography to the streets of Los Angeles. Photographs from this portrait series gives you a chance to take a quick glance at the elusive SVAHN when he puts down his camera for only brief a moment...(click on highlighted name to be directed to link)

Film Study Series: Model test shoot (JNet)

Working with this series has allowed my exploration with  film  to be taken into the realm of studio photography. I utilized the Nikon F4 tethered to studio strobe lights to contrive these amazing detailed shots. This is what I produced...

Creative Film Portrait Series

" A_Muse"

"A_Muse" is a creative portrait series put together purposefully to explore the effects of color film utilizing a striking test subject. The location of this photo session took place in a vacant Korea Town apartment complex nestled right in the center of your average L.A. "shady" neighborhood. With this series I wanted to be completely natural with every element taken to compose and compile a multitude of stunning photographs. Meaning, from the lighting to the make-up selection chosen for the model, I wanted to maintain an underling presence of a supreme natural feel or mood throughout the series. The location was specifically chosen for the natural amazing light that flooded the windows, granting me enough available light to capture the photographs at a decent exposure. Me being who I am, I could not resist putting my unique twist on this series with dramatic lighting effects manipulated through basic camera control.
I would advice you viewers to take a further look into the rabbit hole. See what photographs were captured that day. A variety of 35mm and 120 medium format films were selected for this shoot to gain a better insight on the effects and colors produced by each type of film used:

  • Kodak Portra 800 (expired)
  • Kodak 160VC (expired)
  • Kodak 400NC (expired)

         .................... ENJOY!!

Creative Film Portrait Series

A studio portrait rendition of famous (some may say notorious), N.W.A rapper "EAZY-E"...  I took the daring opportunity to dress my brother Clairfoster  in full 80's South Central Los Angeles gangster style clothing. All was with effort to create an unconventional style portrait by respectively imitating now deceased gangster rap icon EAZY-E. Setting up this photo shoot gave me the opportunity to photograph my subject using a Mamiya C330 twin-lens camera. Check to see results...

A film study Series:

Shapes Shape World...

"Why doesn't anyone care to take another look at the world around them"? I ask myself.

A true representation of my idea I call, "Lost Art" is spawned to life in a new project series dubbed, "Shapes Shape World". In this series my idea is to share with the viewers an over-dramatically simple yet realistic
perspective of the most common everyday dwellings in world. But with an even more dramatic twist of either supreme clarity (which gives exceptional detail) or captivating color schemes and lighting. This series brings into focus the mundane world around us and boast to show how much design, either natural or man-made it possess. It is my purest intentions to capture everything I add to this series in the future with various types of color film. It is a conscience decision to stay true to my ideals of what I believe in. The essence of traditional photography is incomparable even with today's standards of photography.
